Peter Lik Captures the True Polynesian Spirit
Hawaii, one of four recently released fine art photography books from the Master Photographer, reveals the beautiful, exotic landscape Peter has been exploring for years. This paradise of the Pacific has become a favorite destination for the Artist, a place where he can get away from the day-to-day of his fast-paced work schedule, and home to two of his successful galleries. Above all else, it is the perfect location to capture some of Mother Nature’s most precious scenes. After spending endless hours searching through his massive portfolio, Hawaii has come to represent Peter’s most prized images of the legendary archipelago.
Over 160 newly published photographs come to life throughout this purely visual journey of blue surf, rich forestry, sweeping shorelines and raging volcanoes: “Hawaii is one of those places I wanted to go to,” Peter stated. “When I finally got to see the landscape up close, I was not disappointed. The islands may appear tiny on a map, but being there is like surrounding yourself in some fantastic dream world. From the waterfalls to sunsets, to the warmly welcoming locals, this is a place I will never tire of.”
Hawaii is home to two of Peter’s galleries, LIK WAIKIKI, and LIK LAHAINA – his longest running U.S. gallery, which has been thriving on the island of Maui for 12 years. These sought after destination spots are a true testament to the Artist’s strong ties with the local community and culture: “Putting out this book means so much to me, especially after years of being embraced by the Hawaiian people,” Peter added. “It was also time to give thanks to the Gods of the South Pacific for all the visual gifts they have given me.”
In 2013, when Peter began sifting through over one million images for his epic work, Equation of Time, he quickly realized he could never possibly fit all of his favorite shots into one massive book, no matter how big. Hawaii is a way for Peter to share more of his passionate visions with his collectors – some of which have never before been seen by anyone outside his studio until now. With every page turn, viewers are sure to discover why Peter’s Hawaii is a true paradise.
